About BABLE: BABLE Smart Cities is the Facilitator for Smart Cities in Europe, born as a spin-off from Fraunhofer Research Society. With a decade of experience in the field, we offer practical insights gained by practitioners, for practitioners.

Our mission is to accelerate change in the public and private sectors by providing market access and knowledge. We have already facilitated €2Billion in Smart City projects with cities, towns, and regions. Internship Opportunity: We are excited to offer an internship opportunity in our Customer Excellence- Global team, starting in 2026. As an intern, you will play an integral role in supporting our consultancy and Platform projects.

What You Will Do:

  • You will actively contribute to our consultancy projects, spanning climate action and smart places initiatives in southern Europe, as well as Communities projects.
  • You will be responsible for conducting market research, exploring policy mechanisms, new funding initiatives, networking events, and innovative solutions within the realm of climate action and smart cities.

Tasks

What We Expect From You:

We're looking for exceptional individuals who share our passion for sustainability and innovation. If this is you, here's what we expect:

  • You will accompany BABLE team in overseeing and leading activities developing smart mobility systems and services across 10 EU Mission Cities and a multi-disciplinary consortium of key partners across Europe. You will engage with citizens and stakeholders, co-designing use cases and solutions for sustainable and autonomous driving services in public transport, and support creating overarching guidelines for real-life demonstrators.
  • You will assist in the multi-stakeholder engagement with public transport service providers and tech companies to gather feedback and incorporate it into project development.
  • You will also provide support to the project’s exploitation lead and outcomes through the conception of business models and replication.
  • You will evaluate European and international funding sources for innovation projects and accompany the team on building concept ideas to accompany European cities to apply for fund opportunities.
  • You will support the coordination of follow-up activities with 10 mission cities, and monitor their evaluation, tracking risks and deviations, and harvest insights on Lessons learned from their use case deployment.
  • You will contribute to the project’s outcomes, including the support on writing deliverables and scientific results.

  • Excellent research skills (market research, technologies, urban development, etc.)
  • Excellent command of MS Office tools, notably Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work independently and to represent the organisation in project meetings

Your Profile:

A mandatory internship as part of your curriculum.

  • A native or professional level of English in both written and spoken is required. Proficiency in Spanish or German may allow you to work closely with other teams, but it isn’t a requirement.
  • Proven years of study or practical experience in a relevant field – sustainable mobility, logistics, urban planning -
  • Familiarization with the Euro Policies and funding environments, such as Horizon Europe, or the NetZeroCities would be highly valued.
  • Knowledge of the European Commission’s transportation coordination initiatives and grant management, in particular, the Zero-emission Road Transport (2Zero), and Connected, Cooperative and Automated Mobility (CCAM) will be an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in an international and multidisciplinary team. Experience in project management would be an asset.
